Laparoscopic Surgery (Gynecological)

The Evolution of Surgery: Seeing and Healing Without Large Incisions. Laparoscopy is the flagship technique of modern minimally invasive surgery. Unlike traditional surgery (laparotomy), which requires opening the abdomen with large incisions, laparoscopy allows us to perform complex operations through tiny incisions (just 0.5 to 1 cm). At IREGCI, we use this advanced technology to resolve gynecological problems with maximum precision and minimal trauma to your body.

How is the procedure performed?

It is a high-tech process that combines the surgeon’s skill with high-definition video systems:

Minimum Access:

Two to three tiny incisions (about the size of a buttonhole) are made, usually in the navel and lower abdomen.

Through one of these incisions, we insert the laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera and powerful light at the tip. This projects magnified images of your internal organs onto a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see in much greater detail than with the naked eye.

Through the other small incisions, we use fine, delicate instruments to cut, suture, or remove diseased tissue inside the abdomen.

What conditions do we treat with laparoscopy? Today, the vast majority of gynecological surgeries at IREGCI can be performed laparoscopically.
  • Ovarian Cysts: Removal of cysts while preserving healthy ovarian tissue.
  • Endometriosis: Removal of lesions and adhesions caused by this painful disease.
  • Ectopic Pregnancy: Quick and safe resolution of pregnancies outside the uterus.
  • Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus (womb) for benign reasons.
  • Tubal Ligation: Permanent method of contraception.
  • Chronic Pelvic Pain: Diagnostic laparoscopy to identify causes of pain not visible on ultrasound.
  • Unparalleled Benefits for the Patient: Choosing the laparoscopic approach at IREGCI offers clear advantages over conventional open surgery:
  • Superior Aesthetics: Scars are so small that they become virtually invisible over time.
  • Less Pain: By not cutting through large muscle layers, postoperative pain is minimal.
  • Fast Recovery: Your stay at the clinic is usually outpatient (you leave the same day) or only 24 hours. Most patients resume their normal lives within 1 or 2 weeks, compared to the month of rest required for open surgery.
  • Lower Risk of Complications: Less risk of wound infections and fewer postoperative internal adhesions.

At IREGCI, we put the most advanced technology in expert hands so that your surgery is just a brief pause in your life, not a traumatic event.

Videolaparoscopy (High Definition Diagnosis)

The specialist’s eyes inside your body. Videolaparoscopy is a procedure that combines minimally invasive surgery with advanced digital imaging technology. At IREGCI, we use High Definition (HD) video systems that act like a “powerful magnifying glass,” allowing our specialists to explore the abdominal and pelvic cavities with a level of detail impossible to achieve with the human eye or external studies (such as ultrasound or MRI).

When is a videolaparoscopy necessary?

Often, patients suffer from pain or fertility problems whose causes don’t appear in routine examinations. This is where diagnostic videolaparoscopy comes in.

Unexplained infertility:

The advantage of "See and Treat" One of the great advantages of this procedure at IREGCI is that it allows us to diagnose and resolve the problem in the same surgical session. If during the examination (diagnostic phase) we find a cyst, an adhesion that binds the organs together, or endometriosis lesions, we can introduce additional instruments to treat them immediately (therapeutic phase), preventing you from having to undergo two separate surgeries.

Technology and Safety

  • Enlarged Images: The video system magnifies minute structures, allowing for much finer and more delicate surgery.
  • Recording: The procedure is viewed on medical-grade monitors, enabling the entire surgical team to work in coordination.

At IREGCI, we use Videolaparoscopy to give you accurate answers when other studies have left doubts, offering you a clear diagnosis and effective treatment in a single intervention.

Videohysteroscopy: Intrauterine Exploration without Incisions

The “Gold Standard” for Uterine Health: Videohysteroscopy is the most advanced medical procedure for visualizing, diagnosing, and treating conditions located exclusively within the uterine cavity (where the baby implants). At IREGCI, we use this technique because it offers an unparalleled advantage: it allows access to the inside of the uterus through the body’s natural orifices, without the need for any incisions or scarring.

How does the procedure work?

It is a delicate and highly precise technique:

Natural Access:

A very thin and fine optical instrument called a hysteroscope (only a few millimeters thick) is inserted through the vaginal canal and the cervix.

The hysteroscope has a camera and light that project magnified images onto a high-definition monitor. This allows the doctor to visually “travel” inside the uterus.

A liquid solution is gently introduced to separate the walls of the uterus and allow the entire cavity to be clearly observed.

Two Procedures at IREGCI:

  • Diagnostic Hysteroscopy (Office): Used to investigate the cause of symptoms such as abnormal bleeding or infertility. It is a quick procedure that often requires no anesthesia or only local anesthesia, and the patient goes home minutes later.
  • Surgical Hysteroscopy: If we detect a problem, we can treat it immediately by inserting tiny instruments through the hysteroscope. It is used to remove polyps, fibroids, or correct malformations, generally under light sedation for complete comfort.
  • What do we treat with Videohysteroscopy? It is the ideal solution for problems that affect fertility or menstruation:
  • Endometrial Polyps: Tissue growths that can cause bleeding or prevent pregnancy.
  • Submucosal Fibroids: Fibroids that grow inward toward the uterine cavity.
  • Uterine Septa: Congenital malformations that divide the uterus and cause recurrent miscarriages.
  • Adhesions (Asherman’s Syndrome): Internal scar tissue that binds the uterine walls together.
  • Displaced IUD: Removal of intrauterine devices that have shifted or become embedded and cannot be removed during a routine procedure.

Immediate Recovery: With no muscle tears or abdominal incisions, recovery is surprisingly fast. Most IREGCI patients resume their normal activities the next day, with minimal discomfort, preserving the anatomy of their uterus intact for future pregnancies.

Videofallioscopy: Unique Technology in Latin America

Pioneers in exploring the origin of life. The fallopian tubes are the site of fertilization, but historically they have been the “blind spot” of reproductive medicine. While other centers can only evaluate them indirectly, at IREGCI we have broken that barrier. We are the only center in Latin America that offers videofallopian examination, an advanced micro-endoscopic technique that allows us to navigate and visualize the inside of the fallopian tubes, something impossible with traditional medicine.

What does this exclusive technology consist of?

It is microsurgery taken to its highest expression. The procedure uses state-of-the-art optical equipment available exclusively at our clinic.

Microtechnology:

We introduce an ultra-thin flexible endoscope (optical fibers less than one millimeter) through the uterus to channel the fallopian tube.

Unlike laparoscopy (which views the fallopian tube from the outside) or hysterosalpingography (which uses X-rays), we go inside and directly view the lumen of the duct.

We can identify mucosal obstructions, tiny polyps, internal adhesions, or mucosal damage that no other study on the continent can detect.

Therapeutic Potential (Recanalization) Beyond diagnosis, this unique technology allows us to cure. In cases of proximal obstruction (blockage near the uterus), we can flush out and remove plugs or cellular debris in the same procedure, achieving immediate recanalization.

At IREGCI, we offer you technology that you won't find anywhere else in the region, providing you with answers and solutions where others only find unknowns.
